Dr. Aloisio Bueno is a native of Brazil and he received his Veterinary Degree (MV) in 1992 from Unoeste University. He was in equine private practice in Brazil before coming to the USA, where he completed an internship and a Master’s of Science degree in Equine Medicine & Surgery at Louisiana State University (LSU). He went on to do an Equine Surgery Residency at UC Davis, passing the difficult examinations for the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2003, to become board certified in equine surgery. Dr. Bueno has taught at the University of Florida, Gainesville, the University of Wisconsin, and Washington State University (WSU). He currently is the staff surgeon at Western Veterinary Hospital, in San Angelo, Texas, which provides veterinary care for the large Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. As a result, he has seen a number of severe donkey emergency cases, including colics and orthopedic injuries. In collaboration with Dr. Ted Vlahos, another equine surgeon, Dr. Bueno has successfully treated severe injuries requiring limb amputation and prosthesis design and utilization. This has resulted in a number of donkeys surviving when euthanasia seemed the only solution. Attendees will be fascinated by the success of the techniques used in these cases and the donkey stories that have resulted.
