Dr. Ted Vlahos practices at the Yellowstone Veterinary Hospital in Cody, WY.  He received his DVM from The Ohio State University in 1988 and became board certified as an equine surgery specialist by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.  Collaborating with Dr. Barry Grant, long seen as a leader in equine surgical innovation, Ted Vlahos began developing a practical method of treating the very most severely injured horse legs by amputating destroyed tissues and bone, and replacing them with functional prostheses.  As a result his practice in Wyoming has become a center for curing the worst injuries in horses, mules, and donkeys.  After presenting his findings at the American Association of Equine Practitioners in 2010, Dr. Vlahos has become a sought-after surgical expert and has traveled all over the world utilizing his elegantly simple, yet surgically and scientifically valid technique to save the lives of countless equines.  After recent successes in treating donkeys with his surgical technique,  it became essential that we have him speak at The Donkey Welfare Symposium to alert owners and veterinarians to the availability of a life saving approach to serious fractures and limb infections.
